Wateraid Garden

A garden exploring the challenges of water management in a changing climate, focusing on the collection, storage and reuse of rainwater. The design drew on WaterAid’s work globally, translating practical solutions into a landscape setting.

At its centre, a rainwater-harvesting pavilion formed both structure and function, capturing, filtering and storing water for irrigation while slowing its movement through the site. A permeable framework of walkways and surfaces allowed water to pass freely, shaping the garden as a system rather than a static composition.

Planting responded to shifting conditions across the garden, moving from wetter, low-lying areas to drier, more open ground. Species were selected for resilience and adaptability, creating a landscape that addressed both flood and drought, while demonstrating practical approaches to water-conscious design.
