RES Garden

The Royal Entomological Society Garden explored the relationship between people and insects, highlighting their essential role within healthy ecosystems. The design brought insect life into focus, encouraging a closer understanding of the often unseen activity within gardens.

An outdoor laboratory, set within the landscape, formed the centre of the scheme. Its domed structure, inspired by the form of a compound insect eye, allowed for the observation and study of insects, making scientific research visible within the garden setting.

The surrounding landscape was arranged as a series of interconnected habitats, with varied planting and natural materials supporting biodiversity. Water, deadwood and open ground were incorporated to encourage insect life, creating a garden shaped as much by ecological function as by form.
