RB Landscape

A garden depicting a rewilded landscape in the south-west of England, shaped by the reintroduction of the beaver. The design explored how natural processes can re-establish themselves, allowing water, vegetation and wildlife to determine the character of the landscape.

A flowing brook passed beneath a dry-stone wall and through a loose woodland edge of native trees, before being held within a beaver-formed dam. Water spread beyond into a wet meadow, creating a shifting, dynamic environment defined by change rather than control.

Planting was entirely native, arranged to appear self-seeded and informal, reinforcing the sense of a landscape shaped over time. Fallen timber, debris and irregular ground conditions formed part of the composition, presenting a garden that prioritised ecological function and natural succession over conventional order.
